If you remove the momentum away from an idea, you can sometimes see the emperor is not wearing any clothes.
Imagine this scenario...
Loans targeting 18-year-olds.
If students loan didn't exist and it was invented today, it would be immediately banned.
But the legacy idea of a student loan is accepted by society -- because it's a legacy idea.
Momentum is a helluva drug.
"A friend told me that if you put a frog in hot water he'll jump out immediately, but if you put him in and heat the water gradually, he'll stay until he dies...I have no idea if this is true of frogs. But it's true of people." - Charlie Munger

At the individual level: "If I was offered to start this behaviour today, would I do it?"
